Brave launches Ask Brave, an AI search tool for detailed, private answers

Brave, the privacy-focused browser and Google Search alternative, announced Monday the launch of Ask Brave, a new feature designed to deliver detailed, context-rich answers to search queries.
Beyond Quick Summaries
Ask Brave builds on the company’s AI Answers feature, introduced last year to provide concise summaries. Today, Brave says it serves more than 15 million AI answers daily.
Unlike AI Answers, Ask Brave is designed for longer, report-style responses. It can provide detailed explanations, follow-up interactions, and multimedia enrichments such as videos, news articles, shopping links, and business information — all within the search results page.
“While AI Answers give our users quick summaries, Ask Brave provides longer answers, follow-ups, and a chat mode enhanced with Deep Research,” said Josep M. Pujol, Chief of Search at Brave. “We anticipate that Ask Brave will generate millions more daily AI-powered answers with this powerful combination of search and chat.”
How to Use Ask Brave
The new feature is seamlessly integrated into Brave Search:
- Use the Ask button next to the search box.
- Switch to the Ask tab from regular search results.
- If Brave is your default search engine, append “??” to your query to trigger Ask Brave.
No special mode is required — the system automatically detects when a query is better suited for an Ask Brave response.
A ChatGPT-Like Experience, With Privacy in Mind
The format of Ask Brave answers resembles ChatGPT or Perplexity, often including links, videos, and image carousels. Users can ask follow-up questions or request that the AI reformat answers into different styles.
Behind the scenes, Brave relies on its own API to ground answers in real search results and uses deep research to improve accuracy. Importantly, the company emphasizes privacy: all chats are encrypted and deleted after 24 hours of inactivity.
Competing in the AI Search Race
Ask Brave arrives as major players ramp up their AI search efforts. Google recently expanded its AI-powered search mode to multiple languages, including a global rollout in Spanish.
Brave is betting that its privacy-first approach will differentiate it, offering users a mix of AI-powered convenience and data protection in an increasingly crowded market.
