GE Appliances, owned by China’s Haier Group, announced Wednesday that it will invest more than $3 billion over the next five years in its U.S. operations and workforce, a move aimed at bolstering domestic manufacturing following tariff policies introduced under the Trump administration.

The investment will generate 1,000 new jobs across five states and focus on expanding the company’s air conditioning and water heating product lines, boosting production output, and modernizing its 11 U.S. manufacturing plants with advanced automation and new capital equipment.

The decision comes amid a broader trend of global companies increasing their U.S. presence after former President Donald Trump urged firms such as Apple and Ford to bring more production onshore and create American jobs.

Earlier this year, HVAC manufacturer Carrier Global announced a similar five-year, $1 billion investment in its U.S. operations.

GE Appliances, headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, said that by the time the new investment plan concludes, its total U.S. investments since Haier acquired the business from General Electric in 2016 will reach $6.5 billion.

The company emphasized that the expansion is designed to strengthen its manufacturing competitiveness, improve product availability, and support innovation in energy-efficient home appliances.
