Hugging Face debuts two open-source robots

Hugging Face, best known for its AI developer platform, has taken another major step into the world of robotics with the release of two new open-source humanoid robots: HopeJR and Reachy Mini.
Announced Thursday, the robots are part of Hugging Face’s mission to democratize robotics and ensure that advanced systems aren’t locked behind proprietary black boxes. Both models are designed to be affordable, open-source, and highly accessible to developers, researchers, and hobbyists alike.

Meet HopeJR and Reachy Mini
- HopeJR is a full-size humanoid robot featuring 66 degrees of freedom, allowing it to walk, move its arms, and simulate complex human motion. The expected price point is around $3,000, making it far more affordable than most comparable robotics platforms.
- Reachy Mini, priced at approximately $250–$300, is a desktop companion robot capable of moving its head, listening, speaking, and serving as a testbed for AI applications — ideal for developers looking to prototype or experiment on a smaller scale.
While no exact shipping date has been confirmed, Hugging Face CEO Clem Delangue noted they expect to begin delivering the first units by the end of the year, and a waitlist is already open.
Open-Source Philosophy Meets Humanoid Design
Delangue emphasized the importance of keeping robotics open and transparent, enabling users to rebuild, reprogram, and fully understand the systems they work with. “We don’t want robotics to be dominated by just a few big players with dangerous black-box systems,” he said in a statement.
The company’s expansion into hardware was made possible through its April acquisition of Pollen Robotics, the team behind the original Reachy robot. That acquisition has fueled Hugging Face’s growing hardware capabilities.
A Growing Robotics Portfolio
These new releases are part of Hugging Face’s broader robotics strategy. In 2024, the company introduced LeRobot, a platform featuring open AI models, datasets, and tools for building robotic systems. In 2025, Hugging Face updated its 3D-printed robotic arm SO-101 and expanded its training data for autonomous systems through a partnership with AI startup Yaak.
With HopeJR and Reachy Mini, Hugging Face is not just building robots — it’s building an open, accessible future for robotics development, one that invites the global developer community to explore, experiment, and innovate.
