Instacart is shaking up the party planning scene with the launch of Fizz, a new delivery app aimed at making it easier — and more fun — to stock up on drinks and snacks for gatherings. Officially announced on Tuesday, Fizz is a 21+ app designed specifically for group get-togethers, where guests can collaboratively build a party cart and pay only for what they add.

Unlike traditional Instacart experiences, Fizz removes the awkwardness of bill-splitting through Venmo or spreadsheets. Instead, party hosts can create a shared cart, invite friends and family to contribute via a link (even if they don’t have the app), and finalize the order for a flat $5 delivery fee. Guests don’t pay delivery fees or additional charges.

According to Daniel Danker, Instacart’s Chief Product Officer, the app is a response to evolving social norms. Younger generations, particularly Gen Z and millennials, are more likely to split hosting responsibilities and want options that reflect diverse dietary preferences — whether that’s non-alcoholic beverages, gluten-free snacks, or plant-based options. Fizz makes that coordination smoother and more inclusive.

Fizz is distinct from Instacart’s main platform, which caters to broader shopping needs across groceries, restaurants, and retail. Fizz, in contrast, hones in on just drinks, snacks, and party supplies — think beer, seltzers, chips, dips, and more. Purchases of drinks also earn users "Snack Bucks," which can be redeemed for discounts on snacks, creating a playful rewards system.

The app is also fully integrated with Partiful, a popular event planning platform. This partnership allows users to drop a Fizz cart directly into party invites, so everyone on the event page can see and add to the cart — all within a few taps.

Importantly, Fizz isn’t just another alcohol delivery app. While it does handle alcohol orders (with full compliance to local laws), it aims to differentiate itself from now-defunct services like Drizly by embracing a social and collaborative experience, rather than a transactional one.

Fizz is currently available in more than 30 U.S. states, including California, New York, Texas, and Florida, with plans for expansion.

As Instacart broadens its footprint with Fizz, it’s clear the company is seeking not just more orders, but also a deeper connection with the next generation of consumers — making party prep both convenient and communal.
