Meta is expanding its AI ambitions with the global rollout of a voice translation feature for creators on Facebook and Instagram. Announced on Tuesday, the new tool lets users automatically translate their reels into other languages — while preserving the sound and tone of their own voice.

The feature, which builds on pilot tests first revealed at last year’s Meta Connect developer conference, is now available in every market where Meta AI is offered. At launch, it supports English ↔ Spanish translations, with additional languages expected in the future.

Authentic Translations with Lip-Sync

Unlike traditional dubbing, Meta’s system recreates the creator’s voice, making the translation sound natural and authentic. Creators can also enable an optional lip-sync tool, aligning translations with their mouth movements to make the dubbed video more convincing.

Before posting, creators can preview how their translations and lip syncs will appear and toggle them on or off at any time. Viewers will see a notice at the bottom of translated reels indicating they were generated with Meta AI. Users who prefer not to see translations in specific languages can disable the option in their settings.

Who Can Use It?

The translation tool is currently available to:

  • Facebook creators with 1,000+ followers
  • All public Instagram accounts in markets where Meta AI is active

To use it, creators select “Translate your voice with Meta AI” before publishing a reel. They can choose translation, lip-sync, or both — and then share the reel with translations enabled automatically.

Meta recommends creators face the camera, speak clearly, and avoid background noise or overlapping dialogue for the best results. The feature supports up to two speakers per video.

Insights and Expanded Reach

Creators will now see a new metric in their Insights panel: views by language. This helps them understand how translations expand their audience across linguistic and cultural boundaries.

In addition, Facebook creators can upload up to 20 dubbed audio tracks in different languages through the Meta Business Suite. Unlike AI translations, these manual uploads can be added either before or after publishing.

What’s Next?

While Meta has not confirmed which languages will arrive next, the company says more are coming. Instagram head Adam Mosseri explained the motivation behind the tool:

“There are lots of amazing creators out there who have potential audiences who don’t necessarily speak the same language. If we can help you reach those audiences, we can help you grow your following and get more value out of Instagram and the platform.”

The launch arrives as Meta reportedly restructures its AI division to focus on research, superintelligence, products, and infrastructure, signaling that language tools like this may be just the beginning of its broader AI push.
