At its “Make with Notion” event on Thursday, productivity platform Notion announced the launch of its first AI agent, marking a major step forward in its AI-powered workspace.

The new agent goes beyond Notion’s existing AI summarization and search features, enabling users to automatically generate notes, create competitor reports, update landing pages, and manage databases. It leverages all of a user’s Notion pages and databases as context to deliver richer, multi-step automations.

A Smarter Productivity Assistant

Unlike Notion AI, which focused on searching and summarizing, the agent can now perform more complex tasks that run up to 20 minutes across hundreds of pages. Users can instruct it to:

  • Create or update pages and databases with new data, properties, or views
  • Pull in information from linked platforms such as Slack, email, and Google Drive
  • Generate structured dashboards, such as bug trackers or restaurant review lists

Notion also introduced agent “profiles,” where users can define instructions about tone, formatting, source usage, and preferred workflows. These profiles include a “memory” feature that allows the agent to retain and reuse key instructions, which can be edited by the user at any time.

From Manual Triggers to Full Automation

Currently, users must manually trigger agent actions. However, Notion confirmed that scheduled and event-based triggers will arrive soon, alongside a template library offering ready-made agent configurations for common tasks.

Demo videos highlighted a range of use cases, including generating competitor analysis reports, providing feedback on marketing landing pages, and synthesizing meeting notes into actionable plans.

Building on Recent Expansions

The agent builds on Notion’s recent expansion into broader productivity tools. Over the past two years, the company has launched a calendar app, Gmail client, meeting note-taker, and enterprise search tool — laying the groundwork for AI-driven automations.

By consolidating data across platforms, Notion aims to compete with enterprise players such as Salesforce, Fireflies, and Read AI, all of which are introducing AI agents to extract, analyze, and update information.

Looking Ahead

With its first AI agent, Notion is positioning itself not just as a workspace tool, but as a workflow orchestrator capable of automating cross-platform processes. As customizable agents and templates roll out, the platform could become even more central to how teams manage projects and knowledge.
