OpenAI is widening the reach of its mid-tier subscription offering, ChatGPT Go, by launching the plan in Indonesia at Rp75,000 ($4.50) per month. The move follows last month’s rollout in India, where the company first introduced the sub-$5 option.

The ChatGPT Go plan is designed as a middle ground between OpenAI’s free tier and its premium $20-per-month ChatGPT Plus subscription. For a fraction of the Plus price, Go subscribers gain 10 times higher usage limits compared to free users. This includes expanded allowances for sending prompts, generating images, and uploading files. Additionally, the plan supports better memory capabilities, allowing ChatGPT to recall previous conversations for more personalized interactions over time, according to ChatGPT head Nick Turley.

Turley also noted on X that since the Go plan’s debut in India, paid subscribers have more than doubled, highlighting demand for affordable AI access in emerging markets.

OpenAI’s expansion into Indonesia sets the stage for direct competition with Google, which introduced its AI Plus subscription plan in the country earlier this month. Priced similarly, Google’s plan provides access to the Gemini 2.5 Pro chatbot, as well as creative tools for generating images and videos, including Flow, Whisk, and Veo 3 Fast. Google is also bundling AI features into productivity apps like Gmail, Docs, and Sheets, while offering 200GB of cloud storage and advanced capabilities in its AI research assistant, NotebookLM.

The rivalry between OpenAI and Google signals a push to capture users in price-sensitive markets by balancing affordability with rich AI features. With Indonesia as the latest battleground, competition in the AI subscription space is likely to intensify.
