Uber launches Senior Accounts with a simplified app for older adults

Uber is launching a new initiative aimed at making its app more accessible for older users. The feature, called Senior Accounts, introduces a simplified interface, ride-tracking tools for families, and flexible payment options tailored to the needs of older adults.
Available now in the U.S., Senior Accounts offer a streamlined version of the Uber app with larger text, bigger icons, and cleaner, less complex screens. Seniors or their caregivers can activate the simplified mode through the app’s accessibility settings.
Designed for Ease and Safety
The new feature is integrated into Uber’s existing Family Profiles. Family members can now add seniors under the “Family” menu in the Accounts tab. Once added, the account manager can:
- Set up saved destinations for easy access.
- Use their own payment method to cover the ride.
- Book rides or track trips on behalf of senior users.
- Contact drivers during a ride if needed.
- Follow the ride in real time via in-app tracking.
These tools aim to give family members peace of mind while helping seniors maintain independence.
Medicare Flex Integration
Uber is also integrating with healthcare benefits by allowing senior users to add their Medicare Flex card to pay for eligible medical-related rides, expanding transportation access for routine checkups or specialist appointments.
Global Expansion Planned
While the feature is currently limited to users in the United States, Uber says it plans to expand Senior Accounts globally, though it hasn’t provided a timeline for the rollout.
This move follows Uber’s introduction of Teen Accounts in 2023, which provided safety-focused features for younger users. With Senior Accounts, the company continues its effort to make ride-hailing more inclusive across age groups.
As populations age and digital accessibility becomes more important, Uber’s Senior Accounts could play a key role in helping older adults stay mobile and connected—on their terms.
