eBay is acquiring social marketplace platform Tise

eBay announced on Monday that it has acquired Tise, an Oslo-based social marketplace for second-hand fashion and interior design items. While the financial details of the deal remain undisclosed, the acquisition marks a significant step in eBay’s strategy to modernize its consumer-to-consumer (C2C) platform and engage younger audiences. The transaction is expected to close by the end of the fourth quarter of 2025, pending customary conditions.
Expanding Reach to Gen Z and Millennials
Founded in 2014, Tise has built a loyal following across Europe by combining resale with social networking. Its platform allows users to follow sellers, like and comment on listings, and receive personalized recommendations—features that resonate strongly with Gen Z and millennial shoppers. eBay says integrating these elements will help it enhance its own C2C experience and better connect with the next generation of enthusiasts.
“This acquisition is a natural next step in our investment in Tise, which will allow us to accelerate Tise’s strategy and unlock new opportunities for innovation,” said Oliver Klinck, VP, GM Global Markets Success & C2C at eBay. “With Tise’s on-trend inventory, loyal community, and social-first approach, we’ll strengthen eBay’s C2C offerings, and more deeply connect with the next generation of enthusiasts.”
From Investment to Acquisition
Tise was notably the first company to receive backing from eBay Ventures in 2022, signaling early alignment between the two firms. Over the past decade, Tise has raised $45 million in funding, according to market intelligence platform Tracxn, and established itself as a frontrunner in making resale more engaging through social features.
“At Tise, we’ve always believed that making resale fun, easy and inspiring is key to a more sustainable world,” said Eirik Frøyland Rime, CEO and co-founder of Tise. “eBay shares our vision, and with their support, we will enhance our community-driven model and enable even more people to participate in the social marketplace.”
Betting on Sustainable and Social Commerce
The acquisition underscores eBay’s broader ambitions: to appeal to younger shoppers, expand its social commerce capabilities, and strengthen its position in sustainable retail. With second-hand and circular fashion continuing to gain momentum, eBay’s partnership with Tise positions it to capture a growing market while modernizing its brand for the future.
